Memo: on July 5 SAQ will be on air on VLF 17.2 kHz

The annual transmission on Alexanderson Day with the Alexanderson Alternator on VLF 17.2 kHz with the call sign SAQ will take place Sunday, July 5th, 2020.

Two transmissions are schedulease ed as follows:

    Startup and tuning at 10:30 (08:30 UTC) with a transmission of a message at 11:00 (09:00 UTC).
    Startup and tuning at 13:30 (11:30 UTC) with a transmission of a message at 14:00 (12:00 UTC)

SAQ su 17.2 kHz, ma non per tutte le radio

Il 30 giugno, a Bocca di Magra, ho potuto ascoltare la trasmissione di SAQ in onde lunghe sui 17.2 kHz. Segnale buono, pulito e perfettamente ricevibile nonostante un po' di disturbi vari. Ma non con tutti i 4 ricevitori provati. Mentre infatti la trasmissione era ascoltabile con l'Elad FDM-S2 e con il Perseus, con l'AirspyHF+ e l'SDRplay RSP2pro non lo era. Questi due ricevitori vanno bene più in alto ma in onde lunghe e lunghissime perdono colpi.

L'antenna era la miniwhip, che sotto i 100 kHz è eccellente, ma che rispetto alla Wellbrook ALA1530LNP e alla Maxiwhip sopra i 100 kHz è inferiore, soprattutto per quanto riguarda il rapporto segnale/rumore.

Final report from SAQ Grimeton Christmas Eve transmission 2018 It was a beautiful Christmas Eve morning in Grimeton, Sweden with clear, dry weather and with a temperature of -6C. Many visitors had come to the transmission hall to enjoy coffee, cake and Swedish ginger snaps, as they were watching the activities with starting and running the old radio transmitter SAQ. The "old lady" was in a very good mood and we had a flawless startup and transmission. The conditions was very good with dry and cold weather and the signal was strong, as can be seen on the diagram from the Kiel longwave monitor. Ecco chi l'ha ascoltata: Here is the FINAL SUMMARY REPORT ON TRANSMISSION FROM GRIMETON RADIO/SAQ ON 17,2 KHZ. In total, we have received 343 listener reports (whereof 4 unheard) from 28 countries. The annual transmission on “Alexanderson Day” with the Alexanderson alternator on VLF 17.2 kHz with the call SAQ will take place Sunday, July 1st, 2018.

This year, three transmissions are scheduled as follows:

1. Startup of tuning at 10:15 (08:15 UTC) with a transmission of a message at 10:45 (08:45 UTC).
2. Startup of tuning at 12:15 (10:15 UTC) with a transmission of a message at 12:45 (10:45 UTC)
3. Startup of tuning at 14:15 (12:15 UTC) with a transmission of a message at 14:45 (12:45 UTC)

All three transmission events will be broadcasted live on our YouTube Channel.

Amateur Radio Station with the call “SK6SAQ” will be QRV on the following frequencies:
– 7.035 kHz CW or
– 14.035 kHz CW or
– 3.755 kHz SSB

Two stations will be on the air most of the time.
