Radio Caroline North: trasmissione speciale per Pasqua su 648 & 1368 AM

Another Radio Caroline North mega-broadcast is on the way. Hear us over the four day Easter weekend, online, on our 648 AM service and on Manx Radio 1368 AM.

Join us this Easter, our 55th Birthday, for our Annual Fundraiser.
We will be broadcasting Radio Caroline North live from our radio ship, Ross Revenge, anchored in the estuary of the River Blackwater, from 9:00 am on Easter Friday until 2:00 pm on Easter Monday (all UK times). You will be able to hear us on 1368 AM (courtesy of Manx Radio) in the north west of the UK (and parts of Ireland) and on our own 648 AM frequency in the south east, and also round the world online at www.radiocaroline.co.uk and on our mobile app.

In addition, you will be able to hear our regular Radio Caroline album format and Radio Caroline Flashback programmes on their normal channels, when they are not carrying the Radio Caroline North programmes.

It's been quite a year, with our 648 AM and London DAB transmissions both building a substantial new audience for Radio Caroline.

However, with each expansion, our annual running costs increase substantially. And there's lots more we would like to do.

This year, we have created a stylish Radio Caroline Bell teeshirt, based on a design that was originally used for the Radio Caroline Roadshows.



Starting on Easter Friday, and ending at midnight UK time on Easter Monday, if you are able to make a one off donation of 25 Pounds or more, or join the Radio Caroline Support Group (for a minimum monthly donation of 7.50 Pounds, cancellable at any time), we will send you your Retro Radio Caroline Bell teeshirt.

And remember, donations of any amount will always be gratefully received.

The donation button will go live on our website early on Easter Friday.

After deducting the cost of the teeshirt, we are planning to use approximately one half of your donations to maintain and expand our broadcast operations, and the other half for the maintenance and upkeep of Ross Revenge.

Fifty five years ago the radio world was going to be changed forever for the listeners in the UK. On 27 March 1964, at 18:00 hours the MV Caroline dropped anchor off the coast of Felixstowe, Suffolk, and started test transmissions. (Mike Terry, Medium Wave Circle)

A test signal with continuous music and announcements reported today.  Reception reports on Facebook from the UK, Holland, Belgium, France and Austria. Some reports from mainland Europe refer to a co-channel Romanian or Slovenian station. I think this is at a lower power than the permitted 1 KW. Radio Caroline nel 1964, primo anno di vita

Ci sono voluti 53 anni per ottenere una licenza di trasmissione in onde medie, ma alla fine ce l'ha fatta. Radio Caroline, nata nel 1964, un mito per gli appassionati della musica e della radio, ha avuto ufficialmente l'autorizzazione a trasmettere sulla frequenza dei 648 kHz con una potenza di 1000 watt ERP (potenza radiata dall'antenna).

Il trasmettitore è già stato acquistato (usato) e già fervono i lavori per modificarlo per la frequenza e la potenza assegnate.

Mike Terry, del Medium Wave Circle, osserva con ironia che i 648 kHz erano quelli utilizzati dalla grande nemica delle radio libere nella battaglia che si combatte per mare e per etere nel secolo scorso: la BBC. Qui ha operato dal 1982 al 2011 il trasmettitore di Orfordness che mandava on air il BBC World Service.

L'iniziativa per trovare una "casa" a terra per Radio Caroline è partita nel 2010 e oggi è arrivata a buon fine. Lunga vita alle Onde Medie, nonostante tutto.

This is the end of – or a further step in – a process started by Bob Lawrence in 2010 and enthusiastically supported by Tracey Crouch MP. We thank them both and further thank the many other people who have helped along the way.
The basis of our application was that our traditional heartland was Essex and Suffolk, where the signal from our ships made first landfall and that we wished to entertain on AM, an audience that we have not been able to serve in this way since 1990.
We said that this audience may hear music radio of a style they remember and in some cases presented by the same people they remember.
That in essence is what we intend to do.
We can now announce that our AM frequency will be 648 kHz with a power of 1000 watts. This is ERP or simply the power radiated by the aerial.
A transmitter was imported from the Continent a few days ago and is now being modified to suit the frequency. There are further hurdles, but as you can see progress is being made.

Ofcom ( l'autorità competente e regolatrice indipendente per le società di comunicazione nel Regno Unito) has announced this morning that it has awarded an AM community radio licence to Radio Caroline and 4 other groups. 

"Radio Caroline will broadcast a wide range of album music from the 1960s to the present day. It is for people aged 45+ in Suffolk and northern parts of Essex."

We are pleased to announce that Ofcom have just informed us that our application for an AM licence has been approved and that a licence will be awarded. Further details will be sent to us by Ofcom in due course. Power levels and frequency are yet to be decided.
